Choke in rotary indexing table
Optimally adjusting rotary indexing table speed: The integrated throttle of the RSE series
A pneumatic rotary indexing table must master two things: speed for short cycle times and gentleness for a long service life. Correct throttling is crucial for precise and material-friendly movement. In the pneumatic RSE rotary indexing table models from Friedemann Wagner, this solution is ingeniously integrated.
Why throttle at all?
In pneumatics, unthrottled compressed air leads to harsh stops. This not only stresses the mechanics of the rotary indexing table but also your superstructures, workpieces, and the automation process. A correctly set throttle ensures:
- Avoidance of shock loads and vibrations.
- Maintaining workpiece position in the end position (centrifugal force).
- Constant rotary movements without jerking.
- Longer service life of the entire unit.
The Wagner Principle: The integrated throttle
In contrast to many other suppliers, where throttle check valves have to be painstakingly installed in the hose lines, the throttle function is directly integrated into the pneumatic rotary indexing tables of the RSE series.
Your advantages:
- Precise factory adjustment: The throttle is perfectly placed (short paths) and matched to the table.
- The component does not have to be additionally purchased and installed.
- For the small rotary indexing tables (RSE-3 and RSE-4), the throttles are built into the housing. No external interfering edges - compact automation construction, especially for small workpieces.
- Manipulation protection: The adjustment is made subtly directly on the device and is less susceptible to accidental external adjustment.
- avoid additional throttling: this is a possible cause of malfunction! Read more about it here!
Practical tip: Exhaust air throttling vs. supply air throttling
For constant movement in pneumatics, exhaust air throttling is almost exclusively used. Here, the air escaping from the cylinder is slowed down. This creates an air cushion against which the piston works – the result is a smooth and controlled movement.
💡 Did you know?
Thanks to the integrated throttle in combination with the optional hydraulic end position damping, the RSE models can safely and quickly cycle even high moments of inertia.
How to optimally adjust the speed
- Close throttle: When commissioning, start with a nearly closed throttle.
- Open gradually: Slowly increase the speed until the desired cycle time is reached.
- Check damping: Ensure that the table moves gently into the end position without a hard metallic impact. For RSE-6 and RSE-6, versions with pneumatic dampers are also available for smaller moments of inertia!
