Linear guides and linear unit  - any difference?

Linear guides do their job in guiding a linear movement at low friction.

Regardless of whether the feed of the linear translation is done manually, by motor or mechanically. No matter if the drive is hydraulic, electric,  magnetic oder pneumatic based. Assignment is mechanical guidance.

When viewed strictly: it is a component or module, that keeps a linear movement "in direction".

Supportive fact of linear guidings, is a substantial handling of lateral forces without deforming.

Linear guides are divided in two families - sliding and rolling guides. Both types are different in shapes (type, construction, principle), and are available in many variants and accuracies on the market.
A linear guiding e.g. can be ordered in addition as a purchase part, mounted externally on a pneumatic standard cylinder just to support accurate direction of the stroke.
